Age spots (also known as solar lentigines or liver spot) are a common benign skin lesion as we age. They can appear as a single mark or in clusters. Age spots are often misleading people into believing that they are connected to the health especially the liver. We know now that age spots don’t have anything to do with the liver disease. Instead, age spots are developing due to UV photodamage.
The age spots can range from the size of a freckle to the size of almost half an inch. Age spots are benign in majority and they can be unsightly as they cannot go away by themselves.
