Acne is dermatological condition characterized by formation of comedones, papules, postures, nodules and / or cysts as a results of obstruction and inflammation of pilosebaceous unit (hair follicles and its accompanying sebaceous gland).
Acne occurs most commonly during adolescence, affecting estimated 80% – 90% of Asian teenagers. Although teenage acne is common but acne can occur at any age.
What causes acne?
During puberty in both sexes, acne is often brought on by an increase in androgen such as testosterone. Excessive growth of bacteria Propionibacterium acnes are often involved. Increase in sebum production will predispose to clog pores and eventually developing inflammation.
